September Poetry

Salon She confirms our appointment: Could you do me a favor? Two bags on the passenger seat: Manicure tools Cheeseburger and fries Hallmark on the television A lady adopts a dog, crushes on the guy She munches fries, I clip her toes One nail shoots off and hits the window We laugh, finish the fries Ice cubes in two crystal glasses Fizzy pineapple wine More clippings, trimmings, dusty filing That’s the one with the fungus But it’s grown back since last time All edges smoothed by Giggles and gossip Family silliness Jokes about men Nails shine again What do I owe you? You need eggs? You need milk? Half a dozen jumbos, a carton of coconut Always the random groceries As if she needs to lure me back 91 years old The most magnetic woman I know
