I obviously have Andy Serkis to thank for winding me up and setting me to scurry in Ian Dury’s direction, and now it’s impossible for me to feel bad whenever I’m listening to his iconic songs. This track in particular is clever and cheeky fun, despite the inclusion of Woody Allen, which didn’t age well, but how the hell was Ian supposed to know how that would turn out back in 1977? Anyway, “the smile of a parrot” just strikes me as cheeky perfection.
