August Poetry
Tropical Storm Morning
The glass bottle stopper twist
Of treefrog song
Blooming out of the orchid pots
The chatter and chirp
Of jays and thrashers and mockings
Hustling for dense sanctuaries
In overgrown crepe myrtles
The tinkle and gong
Of front yard wind chimes
Ebb and flow with the gusts
The distant purr of a jet plane
Plowing through furrows of clouds
State-wide and rushing
Before the airport shuts down
The first rising whisper of rain on the window
The hurricane orchestra
Humming before the performance
