November Poetry
The Cult of 3rd and Driggs
Another annual weekend concludes
With an everything bagel
and tearful giggles
over freshly minted in-jokes—
Keanu cake and sea cow aches—
From the gin-soaked celebrations
of our mutual middle age
Epicurean delights as temporary as the tattoos
From the Catbird gumball machine
Fueling memories as majestic
As the Dinosaur on the High Line
Old friends growing elder
Apart
Together
Just friends ladles and spoons
Fart
Together
Red and blue velvet and Bulldogs and Mambas
Pop videos savored with sips of Seagrams
Out-ringing the Chimes at Midnight
With Dune karaoke
While Thom stares expectantly
For his bar snacks
Thoughts flit and flutter in the rafters of my mind
Like the trapped sparrows and finches
In the terminal of JFK
Sometimes stopping to copulate
Often rushing to shit
On everything and everyone
Except for you
You may live
